Description

No experience is necessary; all training will be provided on the job. However, previous exposure to a manufacturing/industrial environment is helpful.

HOURS: 6:30am - 3:00pm, Monday through Friday

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Understanding of English language to read work orders

Understanding of ruler

Be willing to be trained to use a micrometer, optical comparator, tape measure and caliper

Understanding of basic math

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Stand, walk, push, pull, lift, reach overhead and bend to the floor

exert 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

exert 20-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or

exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Near acuity are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts

Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT TOOLS:

Specific measurements looked at include: correct length, quality of cut, quality of weld, coiled properly, cutting and welding correct stock.

Description

Simmons Knife & Saw, a leading manufacturer of high quality band and reciprocating cutting blades since 1946, is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented part-time Engineering Inventory Assistant.

This opportunity involves the identification, cataloging and organization of engineering and maintenance items and spare parts using the Sortly web application. Typical items include PLC components, pneumatic fittings, motors, valves, wire, fuses, terminal blocks and cables. This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager and will work at our office in Glendale Heights.

The hours are flexible and we are happy to accommodate a student’s class schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify engineering and maintenance items and spare parts from Simmons’ stock.
  • Catalog engineering and maintenance items and spare parts from Simmons’ stock using the Sortly web application.
  • Organize engineering and maintenance items and spare parts from Simmons’ stock, including labeling and placement on stock room shelves.
  • Utilize internet searches, phone calls and emails to contact suppliers and for review of technical specifications.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Use of internet and downloading files and photos
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical components
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good listening skills.

RATE OF PAY:  $15.00/hour
