Territory Manager/Outside Sales Representative

Simmons Knife & Saw, a leading manufacturer of high quality blades since 1946, is seeking a well-organized, customer centric, highly motivated Territory Manager/Outside Sales Representative to join our team.   We proudly serve the foam, wood, pallet, leather, packaging, metal fabrication and food processing industries.

As we continue to penetrate and find success in the marketplace, we are in search of an individual with exceptional relationship building skills and strong sales abilities to maintain our existing business and secure and develop new long-term business.  The successful candidate will possess a combination of business development with industrial sales and technical experience.  This position is located in our corporate office in Glendale Heights, IL and requires up to 35% travel within the western US and Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Grow the business within the territory using a sales process with agreed upon measurable activities that demonstrate progress towards key metrics.
  • Maintain and expand customer base by building and continuing rapport with key customers; providing appropriate training and support to distributors and identifying new customer opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver sales proposals/presentations and follow up with key decision makers.
  • Build, track and manage a pipeline of qualified opportunities to closure.
  • Complete cold call prospecting activities to establish first and follow up appointments with customer decision makers.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Simmons’ products and pricing structure.
  • Use customer and prospect contact tools and software, and update relevant information held in these systems on a daily basis.
  • Regularly meet with Director of Sales & Marketing to review weekly sales activities, progress on goals, and status of prospective customers.
  • Attend industry trade shows to accumulate new leads and make productive contact with existing clients. Conduct thorough follow-up with territory leads after the close of the shows.
  • Stay on top of industry trends to identify potential opportunities for company growth. Includes identifying new product opportunities, and/or product, packaging, and service changes; surveying consumer needs and trends; tracking competitors.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.
  • Plan and arrange business travel and accommodations.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 5+ years of experience in a customer-facing sales role (business to business), preferably in industrial applications.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of building business and hitting sales targets.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Physically stand for extended periods of time during exhibitions.
  • Understanding of ISO and Lean helpful. 
  • Must be willing to travel up to 35% of the time.
  • Base salary + commission and bonus

Maintenance Technician

If so, Simmons Knife & Saw may have the opportunity you are looking for.  Simmons is hiring a Maintenance Technician to join our team.  This position reports into our Lead Engineer and ideal hours are 7:30am-4pm or 8am-4:30pm.

PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: To service, maintain, and upgrade existing production equipment and facilities as well as build new machinery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance, document associated tasks and parts used/replaced.  Suggest program improvements.
  • Repair machines and equipment.  Install new or repaired parts as necessary.
  • Offer technical support to Engineering and Production about equipment maintenance, process improvement, and overall manufacturing excellence.  Be a resource for evaluating equipment to be purchased.
  • Service, maintain, and assemble punch press dies and components.
  • Develop prototype parts or fixtures via machining and fabrication.
  • Suggest and implement improved designs to existing equipment components and systems.
  • Assist in the storage and management of replacement parts and components.
  • Troubleshoot and wire electrical control panels.
  • Lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.  Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators and other related equipment.
  • Maintain all lift equipment.
  • Coordinate, schedule, & perform all interior building maintenance including painting, floor care, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.  Maintain physical building structure.
  • Follow all Safety policies and procedures.  Offer suggestions to better protect all employees.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including the use of common hand tools
  • Experience with lathes, mills, and surface grinders
  • Proficient use of measuring tools and equipment
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects at once
  • Moderate electrical/control system proficiency
  • Ability to work with people in all departments and levels
  • 3 years of relevant experience in an industrial setting (apprenticeship applicable)
  • Extreme self-motivation, resourcefulness, and desire to learn.
  • Obtains and exudes solid core values and ethics.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • PLC and HMI troubleshooting and programming
  • Automation maintenance and integration
  • 5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing environment
  • Welding and brazing
  • Technical degree or certifications
  • Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and ISO
  • MS Office programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook
