In our previous video blog, we defined blade life and discussed the importance of knowing your blade’s cost per cut. However, while blade life is an extremely important factor to consider when purchasing a blade, it’s not the only one you should consider. Usually, pricing is the first thing blade users care about. In other cases though, the quality of the blade or blade performance is what’s valued more. That’s what we’re talking about today.
Blade Accuracy
Accuracy is one of the two main indicators of blade performance. While the accuracy of a cut is always important, it can become increasingly vital depending on the application. CNC blades are a prime example of this as they are used to cut intricate shapes out of foam and other materials. If one or two cuts are even a millimeter off, the entire product could be rendered unusable.
Blade Finish
The accuracy and finish of a cut go hand in hand. However, it’s important not to think of the two as the same. Accuracy refers more to the placement of the cut, while finish refers to the aesthetic of the freshly cut material. If a sheet of foam is ragged or uneven after being cut, it usually indicates the blade is either defective or at the end of its life.
